Sports tourism and active holidays
The practice of physical activities it has become a fundamental requisite for a modern traveller because of its features of recreation, fun and well-being. The growing and changing tourist flows, that are characterized by the strong will to dedicate part of the holiday combining an health oriented journey with a relaxing experience in the surrounding area, are increasing consistently. An active holiday brings together a traditional style vacation and the practice of physical activities like golf, tennis, Nordic walking, bicycle touring, canoeing, sailing, equestrian sports, rafting, wine and gastronomic tours and much more.
Mind, Body and Wellness
it is the project by BTS that is opening its doors to an expanding market, aiming at those segments that are focused on holidays that can heal mind and soul combining Sports, Nature and Relax. Spa treatments are included with physical activities, psychotherapy, oriental therapies, acupuncture. The Exchange works within a market that faced a dramatic increase for what concerns the industry turnover, going from being a niche to becoming a segment that nowadays shows one of biggest growth rate (more the 150%).
Tourism oversight: the numbers of sports tourism
- 10 million of travels and more than 60 million overnight stays in Italian facilities
- €6.3 billion turnover estimated
- €1.5 billion spent within Italy on water sports like sailing, canoeing, diving, etc.
- 1 Italian out of 4 plans his holidays considering sports in his decision
- Around 27 million Italians do some form of sport (20 million on a recreational level, 6,5 million amateurs and 10,000 professional)
